United States and China have announced a joint statement regarding the suspension of certain punitive tariffs imposed in recent weeks, according to AFP. This suspension is set to take effect “by May 14.” Following the announcement of new tariffs on imports from China on April 2, both countries had increased their tariffs.

As of recent developments, U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods reached 145%, with the Trump administration implementing additional sector-specific measures. In retaliation, China significantly raised tariffs on American imports to 125%. However, there has been a shift in the relationship between the two powers, paving the way for tariff reductions.
