Un alpinist din Ucraina a fost eliberat din detenție după o expediție record pe Everest.

Summary:

Ukrainian alpinist Andrew Ushakov has made headlines after completing a record ascent of Mount Everest in just four days. However, he faced legal troubles upon his return to Nepal, where he was arrested for allegedly transporting undeclared foreign currency. Chandi Prasad Ghimire, the director general of Nepal’s Fiscal Investigation Department, confirmed that Ushakov has been released on bail set at $60,000, which is notably three times the amount he reportedly had in his possession during his arrest.

Ghimire stated that Ushakov will have to face charges in court, and if he chooses not to contest the case, he risks losing his bail money. Ushakov’s PR team described the situation as a “misunderstanding” and expressed their gratitude for the support he received. Ushakov is currently working to clarify the matter with authorities.

The 40-year-old engineer, who resides in the United States, arrived in Nepal from New York on May 15. He undertook the Everest expedition without the customary acclimatization period that climbers typically spend to adjust to high altitudes. Unlike some climbers, such as a group of British special forces veterans who used Xenon gas to pre-acclimatize before their ascent, Ushakov declared that he did not utilize any similar methods to cope with the low oxygen environment at Everest’s peak, which stands at 8,849 meters.

His achievements in mountaineering, coupled with the legal issues he now faces, create a compelling narrative that underscores both the challenges and the allure of Everest climbing. As Ushakov navigates the legal landscape, his record-setting climb continues to be a significant topic of discussion among the climbing community and beyond.
