On Saturday, May 17, 2025, over 70 museums and cultural institutions across Romania will open their doors to the public for the 21st edition of the Night of Museums. Coordinated by the National Network of Museums in Romania and, for the first time, supported by the Ministry of Culture, this event offers free access to exhibitions, guided tours, and special activities.
Night of Museums 2025 promises a unique cultural experience, transforming museums into vibrant spaces with unusual exhibitions, creative activations, and new forms of engagement with visitors. It serves as an opportunity for the public to rediscover cultural heritage in an innovative and accessible setting.
Inspired by a European model, the event takes place simultaneously in over 30 European countries. In Romania, the Night of Museums has been celebrated since 2005, becoming one of the most anticipated cultural events of the year. The diversity of museums and the richness of the heritage managed in Romania make the 2025 edition a favorable context for promoting education through culture, sustaining the sector’s development, and enhancing the social role of museums.
The Night of Museums serves as a strategic platform for audience engagement and affirms the museum’s role as an active community participant. The central message—Education through culture; Development through culture—is reflected in all proposed activities, positioning culture as a vital factor in societal evolution.
Ciprian Anghel Ştefan, the general manager of the National Museum Complex ASTRA in Sibiu, emphasized, “The Night of Museums is no longer just an evening stroll among exhibits. It is a complex cultural phenomenon, a catalyst for curiosity and dialogue between generations. It brings history, art, and science closer to people in memorable and accessible ways.”
In summary, the Night of Museums is more than an event; it is an integral part of Romania’s cultural landscape, enhancing community connections and educational opportunities through diverse and engaging experiences.
