The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has accused former U.S. President Donald Trump of dishonesty regarding his claims about seeking peace in the Gulf region. Khamenei specifically criticized Trump’s statements made during his tour, asserting that the U.S. is instead using its power to supply weapons to Israel, which he referred to as the “Zionist regime,” that are used against children in Gaza.
Trump made remarks on Air Force One after leaving the United Arab Emirates, stating that Iran must act swiftly regarding a U.S. proposal related to its nuclear program, warning that “something bad will happen” if they do not comply. Khamenei derided these comments as a disgraceful contradiction, reflecting negatively on Trump and the American people. He attributed the roots of corruption, warfare, and conflict in the Middle East to the Israeli regime, speaking at a religious event in Tehran, as reported by state media.
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian echoed Khamenei’s sentiments, pointing out the inconsistency in Trump’s rhetoric. While Trump professes a desire for peace, Pezeshkian noted that he simultaneously threatens with advanced weaponry. Iran, according to Pezeshkian, will continue its nuclear negotiations with the U.S. but remains unafraid of threats, emphasizing that the country does not seek war.
