The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova is currently hosting a documentary photography exhibition titled “Flori pe Prut: 35 de ani de la primul Pod de Flori” (Flowers on the Prut: 35 Years since the First Bridge of Flowers). This exhibition, organized in collaboration with the State Information Agency Moldpres and the National Press Agency Agerpres, showcases photographs by renowned photographers from both Moldova and Romania, symbolically reconstructing the “Bridge of Flowers” event that took place 35 years ago.
On May 6, 1990, for the first time since World War II, the then Romanian-Soviet border could be crossed without documents in both directions. This event was held along the banks of the Prut River, representing brotherhood, a desire for closeness, and the shared history of Romania and the Republic of Moldova. On that day, over a million Romanians embraced each other along the 700 kilometers of the Prut River, as flowers were launched into the water, giving the event its name.
The exhibition will be open to visitors at the Parliament until May 16, 2025, allowing ample time for the public to engage with this historical commemoration.
