In the fall of 2024, a remarkable discovery emerged when two history enthusiasts, Cristian Hoza and Narcis George Carțiș, unearthed a Dacian silver treasure using a metal detector. This treasure comprises nine exquisite pieces, including a twisted silver necklace, a bracelet with gilded ends, geometric and solar motif brooches, and a chain made of silver links, adorned with enamel.
Belonging to a member of the Dacian aristocracy, this treasure not only showcases social status but may also hold sacred significance. Weighing over 500 grams, it confirms Dacian habitation in the area. The Mureș County Museum has initiated archaeological research on the site, where the treasure will be exhibited for the first time.
In a separate but equally significant discovery, another Dacian silver treasure was found buried for centuries in the commune of Breaza, Mureș County. This treasure features a bracelet with plant motifs, elegant brooches, a chain with pendants, and a belt decorated with solar symbols. Together, these adornments reflect the artistry of a high-ranking individual from the Dacian world. Weighing approximately 550 grams, this treasure serves as a living testament to a civilization that still has much to convey.
The discovery marks the first confirmation of Dacian settlement in Breaza, and archaeological investigations will soon commence to identify the potential settlement or fortification associated with the treasure. The Mureș County Museum has announced plans to continue its exploration in both areas, aiming to deepen the understanding of the Dacian civilization and its historical context.
