The Roland Garros tennis tournament has announced a special ceremony to honor Rafael Nadal, a record 14-time champion of the French Grand Slam. This event is set to take place on May 25, 2025, which is the opening day of that year’s tournament, following the completion of three day-session matches at the Philippe-Chatrier Court.
Amelie Mauresmo, the tournament director, expressed the intention to celebrate both the future of tennis and its past greats, naming Nadal as a significant figure deserving of recognition. “Rafa has made history with his 14 titles, an achievement likely unattainable by others. While he won’t be on the court this year at Roland Garros, his presence will be strongly felt during the 2025 edition,” Mauresmo remarked.
In addition to the ceremony for Nadal, the tournament will feature an immersive and interactive exhibition dedicated to him at the Tennis Museum (Tenniseum), which will be accessible throughout the competition.
Nadal won’t be the only player to be honored during the 2025 Roland Garros. Richard Gasquet, another notable French player, will also be celebrated as he concludes his professional career in Paris. Furthermore, on June 5, the tournament will commemorate the 25th anniversary of Mary Pierce’s double victory at Roland Garros and her induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
Additionally, organizers announced increases in prize money for the tournament, which will reach a total of 56,352,000 euros. They have also scheduled the second men’s semifinal for Friday, June 6, to start no earlier than 7:00 PM.
Overall, the 2025 edition of Roland Garros is poised to be a significant celebration of both Rafael Nadal’s extraordinary legacy in tennis and the contributions of other notable players in the sport’s history.
