On April 10, 2024, the “Nicolae Iorga” Memorial Museum in Vălenii de Munte hosted the opening of the traveling exhibition “Retrospectiva anului 1989.” This exhibition, which initially premiered in Bucharest in November 2023 during the XIII edition of the “Communism in Romania” conference, aims to explore the significant political and social changes that took place in 1989, with a particular focus on the fall of the communist regime in Romania.
The exhibition has made its way across the country, having previously stopped in cities like Sibiu, Alba Iulia, and Cluj Napoca, and continues to offer visitors a comprehensive view of Romania’s transition to democracy. It features a valuable selection of historical images and documents sourced from the archives of the National Council for the Study of Securitate Archives (CNSAS) and the National Press Agency AGERPRES. These items depict crucial moments from the Romanian Revolution, reflecting the broader context of changes across Eastern Europe at the time.
“Retrospectiva anului 1989” is described as more than just an exhibition; it serves as a living history lesson, encouraging reflection and understanding of Romania’s path to democracy. The event is collaboratively organized by CNSAS and AGERPRES, alongside the Prahova County Council and the Prahova County Museum of History and Archaeology.
