Exploatarea lui Vladimir Ilici Lenin de către conducătorii comuniști după dispariția sa

admin 2 min read

The history of communism showcases a remarkable phenomenon that researchers have widely noted: the posthumous exploitation of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin by various communist leaders for their own interests after his death in 1924.

Shortly after Lenin’s death, a fierce dispute arose in the USSR regarding his Testament, which named Joseph Stalin as his successor. Leon Trotsky, another contender, claimed that Lenin had ultimately repudiated Stalin in a last-minute addition to the Testament, positioning himself as the true successor. In response, Stalin acted swiftly, exiling Trotsky, who eventually met a violent end. Those who dared to suggest knowledge of Lenin’s true wishes were similarly eliminated.

Once in power, Stalin venerated Lenin, positioning himself as his rightful heir. Lenin’s legacy was used as justification for the terror that ensued, with millions of lives lost in Stalin’s consolidation of power. When Nikita Khrushchev initiated de-Stalinization, he too invoked Lenin, framing the process as a return to Lenin’s true teachings.

In a further twist, Mikhail Gorbachev showcased Lenin in justifying his policies of perestroika and glasnost. The ability to utilize Lenin’s image to support such diverse agendas stemmed from the contradictory nature of Lenin’s own work. His extensive writings provided ample quotations that could be interpreted to support anything from Stalinist terror to Khrushchev’s liberalism, Brezhnev’s stagnation, and Gorbachev’s reforms.

Even Nicolae Ceaușescu did not shy away from employing Lenin’s principles to advocate for a degree of independence of the Rumanian Communist Party from Moscow’s authoritarian influences. For 25 years, Ceaușescu skillfully navigated through the political landscape, quoting Lenin to cater to both liberal and dogmatic factions.

In summary, Lenin’s legacy has been a double-edged sword, wielded by various leaders to validate their divergent ideologies and actions, highlighting the complexities and contradictions inherent in Marxist theory and its application in different contexts throughout the 20th century.
