On April 28, authorities in Spain declared a state of emergency due to a widespread power outage that affected millions in Spain, Portugal, and France. The Ministry of the Interior announced this decision late Monday evening, specifying that the state of emergency would be implemented in regions that request it, with Madrid, Andalusia, and Extremadura being among the first to do so.
The power outage began in the morning and had significant repercussions on various sectors, including transportation, commerce, and communications. At this stage, there has been no official explanation for the blackout; however, all possibilities are being considered, including the potential for a cyberattack.
In response to the situation, tens of thousands of police officers are being deployed to ensure public safety during the ongoing emergency. As night approaches, an additional 30,000 officers will be dispatched to maintain order in the affected areas.
