Romania is set to compensate citizens over 30 years late. Those who deposited money with CEC before the Revolution to purchase a Dacia will receive refunds due to a ministerial order. The amount totals a little over 21,700 lei, approximately 4,400 euros, which barely covers the down payment for a new car.
In the past, Romanians aspiring to own a Dacia, particularly the popular model 1300, had to open a special deposit account at CEC. Once they saved about 80,000 lei, they were placed on a waiting list to receive a vehicle.
