The “Grigore Antipa” National Museum of Natural History invites students and teachers to celebrate the International Day of Birds on Tuesday, April 1st, with a series of educational and interactive activities designed to explore the beauty and diversity of birds.
Starting at 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, and 2:00 PM, students, accompanied by their coordinating teachers, will embark on a birdwatching adventure with Dr. Andrei Ștefan in Kiseleff Park. Participants will observe birds using binoculars and identify them based on their shapes, colors, and songs, as stated in a museum announcement.
On the same day, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the museum offers an exciting challenge titled “Many Eggs, Full Nests, Who Finds Them Well?” This treasure hunt will take participants through the permanent exhibition, combining learning with fun in a unique and engaging manner.
To commemorate this event, access to the museum’s permanent exhibition will be free for the entire day. However, the outdoor activities in Kiseleff Park will take place only in favorable weather conditions.
This event is part of the “Wings of Hope: Protecting Birds, Protecting Nature!” project organized by the Urban Ecology Service of the Bucharest Municipality’s Environmental Direction, in partnership with the National Museum of Natural History “Grigore Antipa.”
Celebrated on April 1st, the International Day of Birds has a tradition of over a century, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of protecting bird species worldwide. The day was first marked in 1906 with the signing of the International Convention for the Protection of Birds. Of approximately 10,000 existing bird species, more than a tenth are threatened with extinction, highlighting the critical need for conservation measures to ensure their survival.
