On April 23, the Muzeul Cărții și Exilului Românesc in Craiova will host the “Ziua Cărților Deschise,” marking the International Day of the Book and Copyright. The event aims to spotlight significant Romanian exile poets and engage audiences in lively discussions about literature and authorship.
The day will kick off at 11:00 AM in the exhibition hall with a segment titled “Lecturi publice: Poeți din exil,” which features pivotal figures from Romanian exile literature, including Aurora Cornu, Andrei Codrescu, Ilie Constantin, Ștefan Baciu, Horia Stamatu, Miron Kiropol, and Grigore Cugler. The performances will be brought to life by students from the Shak-Poetry group—Clara Jianu, Alexandra Vasile, Alis Crușoveanu, Alexandru Negomireanu, and Ruxandra Barbu—under the guidance of poet Ana Paraschivescu. Additionally, students from the Theatre Arts section, Bogdan Scăfariu and Darius Feraru, will also perform, directed by university lecturer Romanița Ionescu.
This public reading aims to celebrate Romanian exile literature, which resonates universally through its cultural themes. The program showcases the enduring relevance of these poets’ works, allowing diverse audiences to appreciate their contributions and legacy.
Following this, at 2:00 PM, the second segment titled “Cartea de la concept la artefact cultural” will take place. This interactive cultural dialogue will feature guest speakers, university lecturer Ilona Duță from the Faculty of Letters in Craiova, and editor Petrișor Militaru from Editura Aius and “Mozaicul” magazine. They will share their experiences as writers, exploring the journey of a book from its inception to its creation, as well as highlight the challenges encountered in the writing process.
The panel will also touch upon topics concerning publishing and copyright issues, reinforcing the importance of authors’ rights in today’s literary landscape.
The “Ziua Cărților Deschise” event promises to be an enriching experience, coordinated by Rodica Constanda and Cristina Gelep, research assistants at the Muzeul Cărții și Exilului Românesc. This initiative celebrates not only literary expression but also advocates for the rights and recognition of authors, fostering a deeper understanding of the cultural and artistic value embedded in books and writing.
This culmination of poetry readings and discussions illustrates the museum’s commitment to reviving and honoring the literary heritage of Romanian writers in exile while engaging the community in meaningful conversations about literature and intellectual property rights, essential components of the creative process.
