On May 28, 2025, at 15:00, the Consiliul Național pentru Studierea Arhivelor Securității (CNSAS) will hold its third conference in the “Colocviile CNSAS” series, titled “Grațierea în România comunistă.” This event, hosted at ARCUB – Casa Eliad in Bucharest, will feature a lecture by Iuliu Crăcană, a senior advisor within the Research, Exhibitions, and Publications Department of CNSAS.
The conference will focus on the communist regime’s policies regarding the pardoning of both political prisoners and common law offenders in post-war Romania. Special guests include Dr. Tudor Avrigeanu from the Institute of Legal Research, Associate Professor Dr. Andrei Florin Sora from the Faculty of History, and Ion M. Ioniță, the editor-in-chief of Historia.
Through this initiative, CNSAS aims to encourage academic discussions and enhance the understanding of the repressive past and the influence of secret services on Romanian society. This conference exemplifies CNSAS’s commitment to exploring historical narratives and offering insights into the complex relationship between state power and civil liberties during a challenging period in Romania’s history.
