Tesla’s sales in Europe have significantly declined, experiencing a 52.6% drop in registrations in April and a 46.1% decline since the start of the year. In contrast, Chinese manufacturers of hybrid and electric vehicles have seen growth. According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) and reported by Le Figaro, global Tesla sales fell by 13% in the first quarter of 2025, with a striking 45% drop in Europe compared to the previous year.
As of the first four months of 2025, Tesla’s market share shrank to 1.1%, with 41,677 units sold, down from 77,314 in the same period last year. Despite being the leader in electric vehicle sales until 2024, Tesla has now been surpassed in Europe by ten brands, including Volkswagen, BMW, Renault, and BYD. Skoda’s new small electric SUV, the Elroq, has taken the lead in sales, while the Tesla Model Y, previously a top seller, has fallen to ninth place.
Electric vehicles overall are still on the rise in the European market, with a 26.4% increase year-on-year, making up 15.3% of total sales in April. The growth in electric vehicle sales varies significantly among European countries, influenced by government incentives and tax benefits. Germany, Belgium, Italy, and Spain have seen a surge in electric vehicle sales, while France has experienced a slight decline.
